The Brief
The prominent location, adjacent and highly visible to the busy motorway in Newmarket called for a striking design with the client's intention being to create a new landmark building.
The brief for this project required the integration of a new commercial building into a transitioning mixed-use masterplan, with our scope including a phased development for a series of new buildings. Balancing a sensitive addition to the existing residential, healthcare, and commercial uses around the site was a key challenge.
Our Response
The five-storey building is designed with a timber structural frame, high performance façade, atrium and spiral stair, and roof terrace with views of nearby Ōhinerau / Mount Hobson. This design study included exploration of low energy technologies, on-site energy generation and PassivHaus principles for commercial buildings.
