The Brief
Safe and accessible housing was the key goal for this project, in line with Haumaru Housing’s vision to ‘to be the leading provider of affordable rental housing for older people in New Zealand.’
Our Response
The existing brownfield site presented a steep gradient toward an open water course, and so creation of a level courtyard for easy movement between the two proposed buildings was an effective design decision.
The project consists of 42 one-bedroom apartments with communal facilities and an outdoor gathering space. The building has been designed to achieve a 6 Homestar rating.
